In spite of their exceptional performance at the just ended annual Army Inter-Command/Formation Shooting Competition, Southern Command (S/Comd), a formation of GAF, plunged straightaway into a review meeting to assess their performance at the contest.
The Brigade – which has oversight of the Volta, Greater Accra, Eastern, Central and Western Regions of Ghana, swept away eleven out of the fourteen awards available for honours at the 5-day competition, held at the Yawhima Firing Range, Sunyani, Brong Ahafo.
At the review meeting the firers and their instructors assessed their disadvantages and advantages throughout their long preparation camp towards the contest to decide what could be done better next time.
The General Officer Commanding (GOC), Brigadier-General (Brig-Gen) Thomas Oppong-Peprah reiterated his leadership policy of bringing the officers and men out to exhibit their skills, knowledge and talent for the benefit of GAF and that, such persons would definitely be recognized and rewarded as motivation for all the Command.
Prior to the firing contest, 6 officers and 42 soldiers had spent long camping periods in various locations to prepare adequately – as their motto depicts – kullum shirri – to wit ‘Ever Ready’.
In appreciation for their performance, the General mentioned the Command Operations Officer (COO), Colonel George Sam, Command Logistics Officer (CLO), Col Eric Boamponsem, all Commanding officers (CO), various officers and men with their families and Civilian Employees, for a great work done for the success chalked.
The GOC, after giving a handsome cash prize to the team, also called out the following who instructed the firers for praise; WO1 Salia Mashoud, WO1 Christian Matsiador, WO2 Gerhart Yao Fugah, S-Sgt Ekow Simons, S-Sgt Emmanuel Korley, Sgt Asare-Fosu, Sgt Michael Amponsah, Sgt Awuku Bodai and Cpl Evans Effah.
“Let me say thank you also to the Commanding Officers’ for their support in money’s and logistics at all times, without which the GOC would mean nothing”, Brig-Gen Oppong-Peprah stated.
He additionally reminded the gathering that the 2 Overall Best male and female firers (Cpt Albert Martey and LCpl Eugenia Agyei) will be joined by the Overall Best Player at the Army Inter-Command/Formation Sports Competition for a leisure trip to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) as part of their reward for excellence.
Also present at the event were Lt-Col William Nortey – CO of Recce Regiment, Lt-Col Seth Odei – CO of 5BN, Major Ampadu – Commander Rear of 1BN, Major Issah – Commandant at Southern Command HQ, Major Buhari – Training Ops, HQ, amongst many.
