A former deputy Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, Ahmed Mohammed Baba Jamal says he lost the 2016 general elections due to infraction within the Eastern Regional branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Speaking to Kwame Afrifa-Mensah on Happy FM’s ‘Epa Hoa Daben’ show, he said, “I lost the elections because a lot of the NDC members in Akwatia felt dissatisfied and excluded from the share of the national ‘cake’ and not because I under-performed as a Member of Parliament”
He also bemoaned the methods used by the NDC to elect Parliamentary aspirants.
Baba Jamal was believed to have said unlike him, who is a lawyer and politician, credentials he felt a mere ‘hair dresser’, Mercy Adu Gyamfi, who was the then aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) posed no threat to him and lacked the capacity to understand proceedings in Parliament and facilitate development in the Constituency.
Mercy Adu Gyamfi won the Akwatia seat and is currently the Member of Parliament for Akwatia Constituency in the Eastern Region. She serves on some committees in Parliament, she also serves on the committee on Employment and Social Welfare House Committee.
