Ghana’s former Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Victor Smith, says the founder of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Jerry John Rawlings open support for President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and public condemnation of the former President John Mahama and other high profile members of the NDC caused the defeat of the NDC during the 2016 general elections.
According to him, Rawlings’ current support for Nana Addo continues to destroy the chances of NDC in the upcoming 2020 general elections.
Speaking on ‘Epa Hoa Daben‘ on Happy FM with Kwame Afrifa-Mensah he said, “Ex-President John Agyekum Kuffuor is also an Ex-President but have you ever seen him openly criticising Nana Akufo-Addo?’’ he queried.
“I am yet to ever hear Ex-President Kufuor do what Rawlings is doing to Mahama and the members of the NDC.”
Mr. Smith was asked if any member of the NDC could replicate the public bashing they have been receiving from the Party’s founder, he said, “Hell no, no one will dare!.”
In describing himself, he said “I am a politician, who works for the NDC and believes that the leadership of Ghana is wrong.”
Mr. Smith is a staunch Mills and Mahama supporter, who played a pivotal role to help the late Mills win the Presidential slot of the NDC at its 2006 Congress to lead the Party in the 2008 general elections.
In the same vein, he supported the choice of Mahama as running mate to the late Prof. Mills, a decision which several advocates of the Party believe is the reason he received the infamous text that fired him as the Special Aide to former President Rawlings.
