Ghana’s former High Commissioner to the United Kingdom under the erstwhile President John Dramani Mahama administration, Victor Smith, has disclosed that he will contest for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearership race in 2024.
According to Mr. Smith, he is fully supporting former President Mahama to win the NDC flagbearership race but after Mahama has finished serving his term in 2024, he [Smith] will jump into the fray to contest for the flagbearership race.
“After Mahama has finished serving as President of Ghana in 2024, I will officially contest for the presidential slot of the NDC,” he told Kwame Afrifa-Mensah on Happy FM’s ‘Epa Hoa Daben’ show.
He added that, if Mahama offered him the opportunity to serve as Vice Presidential candidate he will gladly accept it.
“I will accept to be the running mate of John Mahama if there is a full consultation with the Party leadership. Everyone would love to serve his country when there’s an opportunity.”
“Ghana’s problem has to do with leadership. We need a leader who will ensure that laws work,” he stated.
Ambassador Smith also said policies governments introduce must as a matter of necessity touch people at the grassroots and ordinary citizens so that they can put food on their tables to feed themselves and families.
He said “when we are able to do this, we will have fewer problems.”
