General Secretary for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Aseidu Nketia, has disclosed that some people wanted him to contest for the Presidential candidate some time ago.
According to Mr. Nketia, if he was called upon to stand as a presidential candidate sometime ago, then why can’t he compete for General Secretary for the Party again.
Reacting to questions on Happy FM’s ‘Epa Hoa Daben‘, on why people are complaining about the number of years he has held the Party General Secretary position, he said “People wanted me to stand as a presidential candidate, so if people wanted me to fill that position, why can’t I compete for NDC General Secretary ?” he quizzed.
He also explained that he is not scared of any candidate who will compete him in the upcoming National Democratic Congress polls.
“I have never gone for unopposed. I always compete for positions during elections, so if there is a world cup, you can’t say Brazil should not compete. Otherwise there wouldn’t be a world cup champion. So the assertion that, I begged Koku not to compete me is inaccurate. Hence this is my third election I have won.”
In the forthcoming national democratic congress polls to select party leaders, Mr. Nketia who is the general secretary for the party will seek re – elections, as he compete for supremacy with the deputy General Secretary of the Party, Mr. Koku Anyidoho.
Mr. Nketia became the General Secretary after serving as a Member of Parliament for the Wenchi West Constituency for 12 years and has led the NDC into three General Elections. The NDC won two of those General Elections and lost one.
