Outspoken General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia has said that he has never sent a delegation to convince his substantive Deputy Chief scribe Koku Anyidoho, to rescind his position to contest for general Secretary of the upcoming NDC national delegates congress.
According to Asiedu Nketia, having someone to contest him for a particular position is very beneficial because it tells him his weakness and strengths.
Asiedu Nketia appears to be in a skirmish with his deputy, Anyidoho, as the two battles for the general secretary position in the party’s upcoming national executive elections.
Speaking on Happy FM’s Epa Hoa Daben, Mr. Nketia said, “I have never sent a delegation on my behalf to beg Koku not to contest. I’m not afraid of contest, look I have never gone unopposed in my political life, all the elections I won, I was challenged.”
He however added that, having someone to challenge him is very helpful. “It’s very beneficial for you to have someone to contest you for a specific position, so Koku is welcome.”
Mr. Nketia was reported by Accra based radio station to have sent some persons to ask Koku Anyidoho to step down.
The report said he has confessed to some individuals that he [Nketia] told Koku Anyidoho to contest because he would no longer contest the race.
He also revealed that Koku Anyidoho recently led a group of NDC elders to come to his official residence to apologise for claiming that he [Koku] received blessings from him [Nketia] to contest because he was no longer interested.
