Stephen Atubiga who has courted a lot of controversy with his subtle allegory against Ex- President Mahama, is one of the flagbearer aspirant of the biggest opposition party in Ghana the National Democratic Congress (NDC)
In an interview on ‘Epa Hoa Daben’ political show on Happy FM with host Kwame Afrifa Mensah, he admitted that former President Mahama out of all the other candidates including himself, stands tall because even if he [Atubiga} is given the nod by the delegates to lead the NDC in the 2020 general elections he will campaign on the achievements of Ex-President Mahama.
That notwithstanding, he claimed that Mahama asked him when they both met at Julius Debrah’s mother’s funeral, if he [Mahama] should step aside for him.
Atubiga recounted how he went to Mahama and bowed in greeting as tradition demanded, and in an embrace Mahama inquired ” Stephen I heard you have also expressed interest in running as a flagbearer of our dear party. Should I step aside for you?’’
He stressed on the fact that this congenial attitude of Mahama makes it difficult for both friends and foes alike to not like him.
He however maintained that in spite these positive attributes that Mahama exhibits, he [Atibuga] will still contest and seek the mandate of the delegates to lead the party to victory come 2020 which he is sure of winning.
