Ace Ghanaian sound engineer Zapp Mallet has added his voice to the issue of the unwelcoming reception from the Nigerian crowd to the Ghanaian top musicians and at the just ended Menzgold and Zylofon Media Concert and he is not in the least surprised that our highly respected artistes were viciously snubbed.
He expressed his thoughts in a recent discussion.
“I’m not surprised our artistes where humiliated like that, let me tell you something; even if we go and perform in Togo, Macedonia, Croatia we shall still experience the same bad reception because the music industry is in identity crises…Yes, we don’t have identity,” Zapp mallet told Razzonline.com
Zapp gave a suggestion on how this identity crises can be rectified, he said, ”If we think we want to do dancehall, we have to do it in our own special way that would even beat what the Jamaicans are doing because we can’t compete with them.”
Zapp, who was exceptionally passionate in his deliberation, advised that, “The only way to take the rivalry between us and the Nigerians seriously is to step up our game– from production to marketing”.
On Friday August 24, 2018, Nigeria offices of Menzgold and Zylofon Media were formally launched with ‘The Menzgold and Zylofon Media Concert’.
Surprisingly, two most popular dancehall artistes in Ghana, Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy who were the leading Ghanaian contingents at the launch of their record label and sister company Menzgold were unsuccessful at moving the crowd.
The crowd on the other responded positively to their home stars like Burna Boy and Olamide, but failed to reciprocate the same gesture towards the Ghanaian counterparts.
The unwelcoming reception from the Nigerian crowd to the Ghanaian top musicians has sparked enormous controversies within the Ghana music industry – with many entertainment pundits casting unnecessary shades at the Nigerian fans.
