Chief Executive Officer of AshantiGold Sporting Club, Frederick Acheampong has confirmed their participation in the proposed Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) mini tournament.
GHALCA, which is the mother body of clubs in the country, has proposed a mini competition for local clubs in a bid to keep them active until the resumption of the domestic league championship..
According to the GHALCA press release, the proposed tournament is set to be called the StarTimes Cup.
The proposed tournament will be featured by teams both from the Premier League and Division One League Clubs.
In an interview with Ohene Bampoe–Brenya on Happy FM‘s Anopa Bosuo Sports, Mr. Acheampong confirmed their participation in the competition after receiving an official letter from GHALCA.
“AshantiGold got a letter from GHALCA three days ago and we have accepted to participate in the Startimes and GHALCA competition,” Acheampong stated on Happy FM.
“They indicated in their letter to us that Startimes will sponsor the competition so I believe there’ll be money involved.”
Mr. Acheampong was asked by the host to throw more light on reports making rounds that his outfit will be engaging regional rivals Asante Kotoko in a two-legged friendly match.
“We will play a friendly match against Kotoko on the 9th and 16th of September in Kumasi and Obuasi respectively to keep the players active. We have formed a planning committee to organise this two legged friendly matches.”
