Stephen Atubiga, aspiring flagbearer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has stated that the best presidents in the world have always been ex-convicts.
According to Mr. Atubiga, he deserves to be flagbearer for the NDC because he sacrificed a lot by going to jail for the Party.
It can be recalled that during the famous election petition in 2013, Stephen Atubiga was sentence to three days in prison for contempt of court after he had said on Accra-based Peace FM that the NDC would not hand over power even if the court ruled to that effect in the ongoing election petition case.
Speaking on Happy FM’s ‘Epa Hoa Daben’, he asked with former President John Dramani Mahama to step down and support him since he (Mahama) is not an ex-convict.
“I am hoping and pleading with John Mahama to step down and support me. Every good president is an ex-convict, I am an ex-convict and John Mahama is not an ex-convict that is why I want him to step down and support me,” he asserted.
He added that some world great political personalities like Ghana’s first president, Kwame Nkrumah; former South Africa president, Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela and former President Jerry John Rawlings among others were all ex-convicts who became presidents.
