Former Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts Elizabeth Ofosu Agyare, has affirmed that Former President John Dramani Mahama is the most marketed candidate the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) can use to wrestle power from the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2020 general elections.
“This is good news for NDC because now we are very sure that God willing we have a candidate who will win victory for us in 2020 and so we are excited that finally President John Dramani Mahama has agreed to contest on the tickets of the NDC,” she told Happy FM’s Joseph Nii Ankrah in an interview.
She also asserted ex-President Mahama is the well-known candidate amongst all the flagbearer hopefuls in the NDC flagbearership race.
“He’s our best bet; he’s the most marketed candidate. We all know that the kind of experience John Mahama has, nobody has it, and he has been a deputy minister, a minister, Vice President and President. He has done it all and he has rich experience to bring for 2020 elections.”
Ex-President Mahama presented his letter of intent to contest for the flagbearer position of the NDC ahead of election 2020.
The letter was presented by Ambassador Ohene Agyekum on Thursday, 23 August 2018 at the NDC headquarters.
Others members of the delegation included former Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, Valerie Sawyer, Ambassador Victor Smith, Inusah Fuseini and a host of Members of Parliament.
Mahama joins other high profile candidates within the NDC including the former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Sylvester Mensah, and Nadowli Kaleo MP, Alban Bagbin.
Other candidates are Dr. Ekow Spio Garbrah; a former Trade and Industry Minister; Former Vice Chancellor of the University for Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), Prof. Joshua Alabi, and Cape Coast South MP Kweku Ricketts-Hagan and Prof. Kwesi Botchwey among others.
The NDC has slated December 7, 2018, for the election of its flagbearer for the 2020 presidential election.
