Bob Arum, CEO of Top Rank, a notable professional boxing promotion company has backed Isaac Dogboe, the current World Boxing Organization Super Bantamweight champion to emulate the feats chalked by Ghana’s boxing legend Azumah Nelson.
Dogboe has seen a rapid rise to the apex of pugilism after dominant spells in the ring against the best in his weight division.
At age 23, the ‘Royal Storm’ boasts an unblemished record of 19 victories in 19 fights with 13 of those triumphs coming by way of knockouts.
Currently the holder of the WBO title-following an impressive victory over Jessie Magdaleno, Dogboe will come face to face with Japanese boxer Hidenori Otake.
Ahead of the fight, Bob Arum has likened some traits in the young Dogboe to arguably the greatest African boxer of all time Azumah Nelson.
Speaking during a press conference to usher in the Dogboe-Otake bout, Arum recounted his earlier impressions of the WBO champion during the Magdaleno bout.
The Top Rank boss went further to elucidate the qualities Dogboe possesses that draw resemblance to Azumah. “I was impressed with him as a person. He has charisma; he has everything you want in a prized fighter, he is a gentleman” he said.
“He is a credit to his country (Ghana)…I had the honor of promoting a number of fights involving his countryman, Azumah Nelson. Azumah was called the professor for a reason. He was really a skilled fighter but more than that, he is a great gentleman. And you Isaac are following in the footsteps of the great Azumah Nelson,” Bob Arum concluded.
Isaac Dogboe defends his World Boxing Organisation World Super Bantamweight Title for the first time against Japan’s Hidenori Otake on August 25 at the Gila River Arena, Glendale, in Arizona, USA.
37-year-old Japanese boxer boasts a record of 31 wins, 2 defeats and 3 draws with 14 Knockout victories.
