Director of gender and disability at the national youth employment (NYE), Adongo Atule Jacob has said that the second Deputy Speaker of parliament, Alban Bagbin must apologise and resign.
According to him, he is shocked at the comments allegedly made by Mr. Bagbin that visual impairment cost the National Democratic Congress (NDC) loses the 2016 election.
Speaking on Happy FM’s Epa Hoa Daben show, Mr. Adongo said, “The statement reported is not only unfortunate but it is also misleading and a demonstration of Bagbin’s own intellectual and moral ignorance, Bagbin has simply failed to survive the test of common sense and must apologize and resign immediately.”
Alban Bagbin is facing pressure from various disability groups to apologise over comments they describe as demeaning.
Mr. Bagbin is reported to have told party communicators in the Volta Region that former President John Mahama made a bad decision by appointing Dr. Edward Omane Boamah as Communications Minister because he stammers and Seidu Danaa, a visually-impaired person as Minister of Chieftaincy Affairs.
