On Monday August 20, 2018, Otiko Djaba, former Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection revealed that she has quit politics, after 13 years, so that she could have some family time with her children and take care of her sick ex – husband.
However, a former Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture under the erstwhile John Mahama administration, Dr. Hannah Bissiw, has waded into the reshuffle of the then Minister of Gender, Children and Social protecting Otiko Afisa Djaba which led to her resignation.
According to Dr. Hannah Bissiw, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) was not fair to Otiko Djaba, because taking her to Italy as an Ambassador is a demotion.
Dr. Bissiw added that Otiko Djaba made harsh statements a woman should not have made all because of NPP politics but was not given a good treatment.
Speaking on Happy FM’s ‘Epa Hoa Daben‘, Dr. Bissiw said, “This is a demotion. They were not fair to her that was why she didn’t accept the appointment. She made statements she was not supposed to make as a woman but she did it for the president.
“She is not a coward to accept the demotion from a minister to Ambassador of Italy, that was why she didn’t submit a resignation letter to the presidency but instead resigned,” she told Happy FM.
Her response was in reaction to David Opoku Ansah’s statement on the same ‘Epa Hoa Daben’ on Happy FM that Otiko Djaba’s new position was an elevation because she will now be called Her Excellency which is a bigger title.
