Ghana midfielder Afriyie Acquah has been named in the Serie A Team of the Week for match-day one following his jaw-dropping performance for Empoli in their win over Cagliari.
The 26-year-old was handed his debut despite completing just one training session with his new teammates.
The Ghana international performed admirably in the middle of the park for the Serie A newcomers as they inflicted a 2-0 defeat on Cagliari via goals from Rade Krunic and Francesco Caputo.
Acquah’s energetic performance earned him 7.9 rating by Opta and joined Emanuele Giaccherini, Marcelo Brozović and Alessandro Florenzi in a four-man midfield.
The former TSG Hoffenheim enforcer’s display has earned him a call-up into the Black Stars ahead of next month’s 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against the Harambee Stars of Kenya.
