Ace record producer Edward Nana Poku Osei, who is known in the Ghanaian music industry as Da Hammer, has compared dancehall artiste Shatta Wale to Nigeria’s legendary musician Fela Kuti.
On e.TV Ghana’s entertainment talk show, The Late Nite Celebrity Show, he was eager to talk about Shatta Wale and even asked the host to cease the call-ins to avoid any interruptions during his assertions about the dancehall king.
He started off saying “Now let’s talk about Shatta, I don’t think people know who Shatta is, Shatta is a disrupter, he disrupted the game. He represents the guy who refuses to be bullied, he won’t be bullied no more, he is hope, he is the last hope for people who have been stepped on and finally want to redeem themselves.”
“People think it’s all about the music but it’s not, he is a revolutionary, what he did was more than music, he represents strength, he represents the underdog who has come on top, he is a success story. So people go like Hammer, you have a lot of boys why Shatta?” He added.
In answering those who ask him why Shatta and not any of his other boys, he said, “Look, what he did, Fela is the person I can compare him to, Lumba couldn’t do it, Kojo Antwi couldn’t do it. Who has gone abroad and returned to have over 500 people waiting for him at the airport, did you see what happened at the airport when he got to the north?”
