Rapper Paa Dogo has debunked rumours that he went on break from music because he was out of his senses. He attributed his break to poverty and not madness as people claimed.
He said Ghanaians have very expectations of those in the limelight, so even though much was expected from him.
Dogo said, “People have high expectations of stars in Ghana; they expect to see Dogo’s car and his luxurious house.”
According to him, he ended up settling for his second career in masonry because that was his source of livelihood and his mode of dressing during working hours was what gave people the impression that he was mad.
“So imagine after gaining stardom and having to go back to hustling because things didn’t go well for me. I had to settle for my profession in masonry, which I learnt from my father who is a contractor. We build houses for sale,” he said.
“I walked long distances when I didn’t have transportation so someone who saw then me would think I was mad. Moreover, how would you feel if you met Dogo working in clothes fit for a laborer on site looking dirty? Anyone who met me looking that way would think I was mad but I knew my situation and I knew I would sleep on an empty stomach if I didn’t do. That was my source of livelihood and not music so I was committed,” he added.
Due to his experience he says he never ceases to advice up and coming artistes to always have a second job to support the music they do.
“In Ghana music doesn’t fetch as much money as people think so I advice any upcoming artiste to couple the music with another job,” he advised.
Dogo has big names like Tinny, Edem, Pono Biom, Jupiter among others.
