Black Avenue Musik signee Dehlln Gage, says he sings about sex because he likes it and that is what will sell.
Speaking on eTV Ghana’s award-winning entertainment talk show, The Late Nite Celebrity Show, the host, Foster Romanus asked Gage why the lyrical content of many songs these days barely makes any sense. He stated that the youth of today are not interested in making sense of the music, all they want is to dance to the beat and party hard.
“Umm you know, before, that generation, those days it was more like listening but now most of the kids that come, they don’t care about what you say, it’s about the beat and it’s about partying. It’s about stuff that’s going on,” he said.
He, however, added that, since that is the kind of music the audience wants, that is what one ought to deliver if you are in the industry to make money.
“Come on, like if you are looking for money, you give them what they want. If like you’ve got your own money, you can sing about what you feel like but if like you want to follow the trend then you need to do what everyone is doing,” he added.
Probing further, Foster asked if he agreed with people saying, most musicians these days sing only about sex.
He answered by saying “I’m just doing it because it’s a vibe, we just dey do am and make people feel and have fun. In a way, I agree.”
Dahlin responded “Yes” when he was asked if he chooses that kind of lyrics intentionally. He further added saying “That is what people like and me too that is what I like”.
Nonetheless, according to Dahlin, the sexual content in the songs are encrypted.
“We put it in a coded way, we don’t just sing it raw like that, it’s just music, we are just having fun,” he stressed.
Shatta Wale has featured Dahlin on a song that will be out soon.
