The Bank of Ghana August 1, 2018, granted a universal banking licence to Consolidated Bank Ghana Limited established by the Government.
The merged banks to form the Consolidated Bank Ghana Limited are uniBank Ghana Limited, the Royal Bank Limited, Beige Bank Limited, Sovereign Bank Limited, and Construction Bank Limited. The BoG also appointed Mr. Nii Amanor Dodoo of KPMG as the Receiver for the five banks.
According to BoG, Ghana needs a strong and stable banking sector to drive the process of economic transformation. A weak banking sector means that access to credit will be limited while lending rates will continue to be high.
The banks as of 9am today August 2nd, have not opened to start operations in all of their branches as they would have normally done but instead the premises of the banks mentions are closed with notices on their doors informing customers and clients that they would start operation this afternoon at 1:00pm
Happyghana.com has gathered that the management of the banks are working around the clock to hand over their assets and liabilities to The Consolidated Bank Ghana Limited.
The premises are very calm as of this morning and customers have not massed up at any of the banks so far.
Below are pictures of the premises of the various banks;
