Deputy National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kwaku Boahen has slammed the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) as deliberately collapsing Banks in Ghana, whiles NPP banks are working without any interactions.
According to Kweku Boahen, some banks which belong to the NPP do not even have ATM machines. He said “They only have two branches but it is surprising that, those banks have been allowed to work.”
Mr. Boahen who was a guest on Happy FM’s ‘Epa Hoa Daben’ show said, “NPP is wicked, but God will expose them, what has Duffour and his people done for their banks to be collapsed.”
The NDC communicator, Kwaku Boahen said NPP was so broke that they had to trade and sell before financing their campaign for the 2016 elections. He alleged and said “Ken Ofori Atta’s company had had only 10 customers but because he is currently a Finance Minister he has been able to open several branches. He added “Kwabena Duffour was ahead of Ofori Atta but Ofori Atta is now collapsing their Banks and his bank is still active. He is thousand times knowledgeable than Ofori Atta,” he said on Happy FM.
Kweku Boahen made these comments whilst commenting on the current banking consolidation process being undertaking by Ghana’s central bank. On 1st August, the central bank merged 5 local banks which were struggling in line with the Bank of Ghana’s quest to improve standards, professionalism and strengthen Ghana’s banking sector. In this act, the Bank of Ghana revoked the licenses of UniBank Ghana Limited, The Royal Bank Limited, Beige Bank Limited, Sovereign Bank Limited, and Construction Bank Limited and has appointed Mr. Nii Amanor Dodoo of KPMG as the Receiver for the five banks.
