A two-year-old baby met his untimely death over the weekend over allegations he was denied treatment at the Upper West Regional Hospital.

The boy, according to Citi News was bitten by a snake and had been referred to the Regional Hospital after being given first aid at a CHPS compound.

According to the parents of the deceased, the boy was not attended to by the health officers, several hours after arriving at the hospital.

They claim his mother was made to go through administrative processes including obtaining a folder but proper medical attention was denied him.

Uncle of the deceased, Salia Abudi, who spoke in an interview alleged that his nephew died after being denied treatment at the Upper West Regional Hospital.

“We rushed in to find out from the officers who were already working but they told us to wait outside before they come and give us the folders. There was no one in the folder room. After hours of waiting, one man came and told us that left to him alone, we should go and come back the next day. So we called another officer who gave us the referral letter. He came around and brought a list of drugs that we should buy so he comes to treat our boy. But when we reached home, we realized that the boy had died.”

Meanwhile, the hospital has not been available for comments.

Residents in the Northern part of the country die because they cannot afford the high cost of the anti-snake serum or sometimes due to the non-availability of the drug.

Hospitals there have for some time, lamented that they have not been receiving anti-snake serums from the Ghana Health Service.

But, the Ministry of Health has given assurances that it is undertaking procurement processes to acquire some anti-snake serums for the country.
