Ghana’s captain and talisman Asamoah Gyan reached his much awaited 50th international goal mark as the Black Stars put up a stupendous performance to annihilate their Ethiopian counterparts in their 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at the Kumasi Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday.
Ghana opened the scoring through captain and talisman of the side Asamoah Gyan who thumped home a header from Thomas Agyapong’s sumptuous cross.
It wasn’t long before John Boye added the second from what could best be described as a beauty of goal after picking a pass from Raphael Dwamena and curling the ball home on the turn.
The Black Stars kept controlling the game and when the first half seemed to have ended 2-0 the home side, Ebenezer Ofori dummied his marker before firing home a rocket into the roof of the net for the 3rd.
Raphael Dwamena stabbed in the 4th goal just two minutes into the second half after Andre Ayew’s strike was parried by Ethiopia’s goalkeeper Abel Mamo into his path.
Dwamena netted his second and Ghana’s fifth in the 58th minute to give Ghana a blistering start to the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The three debutants; Thomas Agyapong, Lumor Agbenyenu and Raphael Dwamena acquitted themselves expertly as they paid back with sterling performances as Kwesi reposed rare confidence in them.
