The Finance Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has announced an allocation of GHS 7.5 billion to the District Assemblies Common Fund as part of the government’s commitment to decentralization and economic growth at the local level.
Presenting the 2025 Budget in Parliament, Dr. Forson emphasized that, under the decentralization policy, government is proposing that at least 80% of the allocated funds be sent directly to district assemblies.
This, he stated, would ensure that local authorities have the necessary resources to spur economic development and effectively manage their jurisdictions.
“My Speaker it is worth noting that in a stark contrast to what has happened recently at the District Assemblies Common Fund, where only 50% of the released amount is sent to the district assembly for the purposes of running the assemblies,” he told Parliament.
Dr. Forson reiterated the government’s dedication to strengthening local governance through financial empowerment, urging Parliament to support the proposal for direct disbursement of funds to district assemblies.
