17 suspected cases of meningitis recorded in upper west region, six dead

17 suspected cases of cerebrospinal meningitis (CSM) have been recorded in the Upper West Region which has resulted in six deaths.

According to Dr. Collins Boateng Danquah, Deputy Director of Public Health, eleven districts in the region have recorded cases of cerebrospinal meningitis with Nadowli/Kaleo District and Nandom Municipality bearing the highest number.

The Deputy Director of Public Health advised residents within the affected district to observe preventive measures like avoiding overcrowded areas and stay in well ventilated environments.

He also cautioned them to seek early medical attention if they exhibit symptoms like neck pain, headache and fever to avoid death.

He added that the regional health directorate is putting measures in place to curb the disease.
