Sports Minister intimates: NDC Government did not support Kwesi Appiah
Minister of Youth and Sports Isaac Asiamah insists Kwesi Appiah failed in his first stint with the Black Stars because the then government did not support him to succeed.
James Kwesi Appiah has been reappointed as Black Stars Coach and he is expected to begin work on 1st May 2017. The former Kotoko player signed a two year deal which sees him as Coach of the National team from 2017 to 2019.
The minster of youth and sports who was on a tour of the Accra Sports Stadium on Tuesday says the NPP led government will give Kwesi Appiah the needed support for him to excel.
“If you give somebody a job and you don’t support him, it means you’ve laid a path for him to fail. What happened in Brazil, it’s all because the previous government did not support Kwesi Appiah,” he said.
“You are sending a team to a tournament and you promise them you will pay their appearance fees and you didn’t pay them. They left for a training tour, they still weren’t paid. They got top Brazil, played their first game, no money, in the second game; the then vice president went there to have talks with them it didn’t work.  The Minster did same it also didn’t work. So the beginning of indiscipline was because of the previous governments’ failure to honour their promise,” he added.
The minister however promised the new government will give Kwesi Appiah their unflinching support to see the former Ghana player succeed in his second stint.
“The NPP government led by Nana Akuffo Addo says I should tell Ghanaians our newly appointed manager, Kwesi Appiah will be given all the support he needs to succeed as Black Stars Coach.”
