Confirming the story to citifmonline.com, the Public Relations Officer for the Upper West Regional Coordinating Council, Bagdara Tanko noted that the minister's convoy was ambushed by what he suspects were armed robbers.
According to him, the Minister "was on an official working visit to some of the districts. He was on his way to one community when he was ambushed. A roadblock had been mounted and shots fired from behind. Unfortunately, one of the bullets hit him."
"As at now, his condition is very stable and we are praying that he’ll be fine. He was with his bodyguard and the driver but he was the only one wounded because he was sitting in the backseat."
Mr Tanko indicated the "Regional Coordinating Council is making arrangements to bring him down to Wa and see whether they can fly him to Accra for further medical attention."
"We do not suspect foul play. It is an armed robbery attack because normal people don’t mount roadblocks with guns. The security agencies will therefore handle it. It is however unknown if any personal effect were taken," he indicated.
