ETV Ghana?s Awake hosted by the Rashida had an informed conversation about illicit sex with Dating and Relationship Coach Paapa Kwamena.
?Illicit sex is simply having more than one sex partner? Paapa said. ?The only approval for sex is marriage and anything outside the confines of marriage to some extent has consequences socially, physically and morally.
"Having multiple partners comes with its own problems which includes STD's, committing in relationships and psychological effects; and it's only fair to say many who involve in these are prone to diseases and meltdowns because of the stress."
Answering Rashida's question on why illicit sex is on the rise in the country, Paapa said
"It's high in Ghana because of poverty, lack of proper parental upkeep, peer pressure and the sheer adventure the youth want in exploring after viewing pornographic materials."
Using neuroscience terms to elaborate his points, he revealed
"The biggest sex organ in the body is the brain and the last thing a person would want to do is to put unnecessary pressure on this organ because of some few minutes of excitement.
"It's also important people take abstinence very important because marriage as widely known is the only approval that allows you to legally engage with a partner sexually and it's more safe and stress free.
"What is the point in playing husband or wife before marriage when you can that several years of that life after marriage?" Paapa Kwabena questioned.
"There is a science to prove illicit sex has adverse effect on us compared to the pleasure people seek from engaging in it.
"For instance, Oxytocin also known as the love hormone is sparked in women for them to be much more attracted to their partners after sex, imagine it's not someone who cares about you and will want to leave immediately after getting the sex he needed, that will affect the woman in a way, because men also possess Vasopressin that activates the bonding centers in their brain and make them feel attached and protective.
