Vice President of the Ghana Football Association, George Afriyie, has affirmed that Avram Grant’s main task for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), is to win the trophy with the Black Stars in Gabon next year.
George Afriyie declared that the only goal of the association ahead of the biennial tournament is to bring home the continental trophy that has eluded the country for the past 34 years.
“We’ve made it clear to him that he should come home with AFCON trophy because the situation has changed this time round, unlike the last time when we told him to go and do well,” George Afriyie said on Happy FM’S Anopa Bosuo sports.
“We believe it’s not too much to ask from him because we have top players to do the job adequately. Last year we were robbed by lady luck in the penalty shoot-out against the Ivoirians and with the quality we have in the team, we see no reason why we cannot go a step further this time.”
The Black Stars last taste of glory in the Nations Cup was in Libya 1982, where they defeated the host 7-6 on penalties.
